Liquid crystal glazing
Walking past a window with Lumisty applied, a perfectly clear, transparent glass
surface becomes, in a step or two, partially fogged. Two or three steps later, the
same window is completely fogged. Walk backward or forward, and it’s clear again.
As the viewer’s angle shifts, so does the transparency or translucency of the film.
This is laminated glass, with a minimum of two clear or colored sheets of glass and a
liquid crystal film, assembled between at least two plastic interlayers. In the OFF state,
the liquid crystals are not aligned, which prevents vision, yet allows light to pass
through the glass. When is it switched ON, the liquid crystals align, turning the glass
transparent and allowing vision through the glass. The change of transparency takes
place within milliseconds. Liquid crystal glazing is designed for internal applications,
including partitions, display cases, bank screens.

Pleotint
Pleotint thermoscattering technology can also be used to create interesting
architectural effects. The windows pictured below contains thermoscattering
material sandwiched between electrically conductive glass and tinted glass.
Each section of the window is independently connected to a controller that
cycles power through the unit, alternatively heating sections of glass at
various intervals. As a section is heated, the thermoscattering material
changes from opaque to clear. The result is an ever-changing window
thats adds interest and variety to the office space.
